Moving to the Metanet Forums
Hey everybody, I have pressing news!
Before the forum for Nv2 existed, there was already a forum for Metanet. Shomman, Oleary15, Sidke, and I are trying to bring the 2.0 forum users over to the Metanet forums. These two communities have drifted quite far apart over the couple of years since the release of Nv2, and we would like to bring them back together. We believe that bringing these two communities together could do a lot of good for everyone involved.
You can find the Metanet forums at:
https://forum.droni.es
If you have any questions about this transition, feel free to just pm any of us,
or find us on the chat.
I hope to see all of you there!

Re: Moving to the Metanet Forums
I never understood the reasoning behind the community split. What was the purpose of creating this forum when there was a whole Nv2 thread in the metanet forums?
Anyway, hopefully I'll see you guys on forum.droni.es!

Splitting the communities was not a 1-day decision, it slowly grew apart. Here's the story:
I was playing Nv2 and I felt like there was an easier way of communicating rather than creating simple maps with messages written in them. Also, there was practically nobody active on the Nv2 thread on forum.droni.es.
So, I decided to look for a simple chatbox website on Google. That's how I got to Tinychat, you know, that chat we previously used. I put a few spam maps out there with a link to the chat and people started joining quite frequently.
Then after a few weeks/months, Btonios created this forum. I personally didn't see any problem with that, as there was still pretty much nobody on the original forum. And I also liked the idea of a more, extensive Nv2 forum (instead of just one thread).
So a few of us started creating spam maps for the forum as well and, just like the chat, people kept joining.
Then after a while Norkkom came in and showed us the IRC chat which was alot better compared to the Tinychat.
And now we are here, using this forum and the Nv2 IRC.
I don't mind going to the other forum though, I'll go with the flow
PS; Sorry for my English, if I did make any mistakes

Re: Moving to the Metanet Forums
I never really saw the point of having a different forums, and never enjoyed having separate communities, it just feels as if you don't want to have something to do with the rest of the community, which is muhc more than just Nv1.4.
To be honest, when sidke did those changes to the forums lately and created a whole subforums for Nv2.0 (which can be as expanded as required) and I saw several members joining at the same time, and activity starting, it felt really good.
Its not about being relegated to a single thread, but to a subforum. For example, N v1.4 has a subforum in the Metanet forums, which has 5 forums inside, and which serve more than enough for all the things that are specificly related to N v1.4 (highscoring, contests, mapping, troubleshooting (help), NUMA, N related general section... each of these, has a whole forum dedicated to it). The things inside those forums, are the threads. Not just one thread, obviously. Then we also have a subforum for mapping, with several forums in it. This is orientated as a general mapping forum, for particularities its better to visit the respective subforum of the version you are using.
All the things you have here fit in there, for instance, all the "general" section is also there, even bigger, all the other versions of N (we have subforums for N+ and N++) the off topic sections are clearly there too, which much more varierty, the mapping subforums (including general mapping, mappacks (which you guys dont do, for some reason), the collabs, etc. All the "Forum" and community sections. Basically everything you have here, is in there, which you don't realize. Plus, you guys have no highscoring subforums, just some spared threads.
Basically, even though you have a whole forum for Nv2.0, its not really that, because most threads are of general purpose (which are also there), and the ones that aren't general purpose, do already have subforums in the Nv2.0 subforums. And we can add more if required, you can ask sidke (nevada) who is an admin willing to bring the community together.
The only exceptions that aren't in there, are subforums like "Youtube channels" or "About you". About you is completely generic, not specific of Nv2.0 and we have that in there too, except its a thread that is true. The other one is not there, but it would be more clever to simply create a thread listing all channels, where users post their channels, I think.
This point is completely nonsense. Who are we to blame for that? Blaming the platform for having few Nv2.0 members makes no sense, considering that creating a forum like this was just like starting from scratch (0 initial members), which is worse, all that was required was advertising. Consider this: What was easier, to advertise the forums, or to create a new forums and advertise them? Clearly the first option, doing the second one as you can see was pointless and overly complicated, you still have to do the same advertising using maps to let the community know about the forums.
And now its caused by these forums, because the people is gathering in here, not there, but that happened after deciding to create these forums, obviously, so it doesn't justify its creation. So the point is not valid, because obviously you could have as well advertised the Metanet forums, instead of creating a new forum and advertising it, which is clearly more complicated and unnecesary to solve the point. If the problem was the members, all that was required was to advertise the forums, if you create a new forums, you don't get rid of that need, of the need to advertise it, so it's just pointless, unless of course you want to emanzipate from the Metanet community for some reason. If not, moving there would solve the problem, clearly.
The only thing those forums don't have, though, is an implemented IRC client (that is, the chat). We do have a whole server for us though, Mountainet, which is better than a single channel like here. Also, we obviously control it since we are the owners of the server (KingAlex, in particular). We connect with any client and you can choose between the many channels there are.
Another interesting point is, the Metanet forums are over 10 years old (not the domain itself though, that has changed, and the database too, in 2008), which means its much bigger, so you'd probably feel comfortable there, and get to know the rest of the community.
I'm just saying my opinion though, some arguments, but that's it, you guys can chooose whether to move or not, or whether to use both, although I'd say the best idea would be to gradually move the threads (most of which are, by the way, already there, or have been doubled or copied (probably unintentionally) from there).

Re: Moving to the Metanet Forums
Eddy, you do make a fair point. This change is a great opportunity to meet and challenge other NEW players( as in people I haven't heard of or seen play) I think it will widen all of our social circles.
